CMP Ingress Protection Testing

Some CMP cable gland types have been tested to IP66, whilst other types have been tested to IP66, IP67 & IP68, to an equivalent depth of up to 60 metres for a duration of two weeks. For manufacturers to claim an IP68 protection level it is important that they include both the depth of water and time duration of the test conducted; otherwise the rating would be incomplete and meaningless.

Under NEC and CEC wiring code rules the use of IEC certified product is not automatically permitted under the zone classification methods. Globally there are now three methods of selection or application of cable entry devices.

Metallic Cable Glands

CMP brass cable glands are produced using material grade CuZn39Pb3 (CW614N) to EN12168 and EN12164. Stainless steel cable glands are produced using material grade 316L to BS EN 10088 : Part 3 -, and aluminium alloy 6082 and 6262 to EN 573-3 - for aluminium cable glands.
